Frontend Experiences
I'm Akash Duggal - a Senior Frontend Dev and Master's student. I build fast, scalable web apps and intuitive interfaces that people actually enjoy using.
About Me
My professional journey, technical expertise, and the milestones that define my path.
My Background
I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Software Engineering at Arizona State University, with a focus on Distributed Systems and Machine Learning.
Previously, I worked as a SDE IV at ZenTrades and SDE III at SmartServ, where I architected scalable frontend systems, microfrontends, and server-driven UIs.
I hold a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from BML Munjal University and have over 4 years of experience building high-performance web applications.
Skills
Professional Journey
Graduate Service Assistant/Grader
ASU- I’m currently helping over 600 students navigate the complexities of Software Analysis & Design. It’s been rewarding to mentor them on UML modeling and architectural decisions, helping bridge the gap between abstract theory and practical application.
Front-End Engineer Intern
- I had the exciting opportunity to work on TikTok Studio’s AI Comment Analysis. I built a dynamic, server-driven UI system that replaced static lists, making it much easier for the team to run experiments and categorize comments efficiently.

Senior Frontend Engineer
- I tackled a major scalability challenge by breaking down our monolithic app into 15 microfrontends using Webpack Module Federation, which significantly boosted our development speed.
- One of my favorite projects was building a custom Workflow Builder with React-Flow. It empowered our clients to configure their own workflows, directly increasing platform adoption by 40%.
- I also focused heavily on performance, optimizing Core Web Vitals through better rendering paths and lazy loading to ensure a smoother user experience.
- To speed up our release cycles, I developed 'FlexiForm', a server-driven UI framework that cut our form deployment time from weeks to just hours.
Software Engineer
SmartServ- In early days, I focused on making our app faster. I managed to cut load times by over 60% by refactoring our PWA to use a REST API architecture.
- I also built an internal TypeScript tool to automate data migration for hundreds of companies, which saved us a huge amount of manual effort and reduced errors.
- I led the charge on a massive refactor, migrating over 175K lines of code from Backbone.js to a modern React + Redux stack. This modernized our codebase and improved application performance by 75%.
- Beyond the code, I loved mentoring junior developers. Establishing structured code reviews helped improve our team's overall output and code quality.

What others are saying
I had the opportunity to work closely with Akash, and he consistently demonstrated a strong sense of ownership and a high bar for execution. He’s extremely detail-oriented while still keeping a sharp focus on delivering impact. Akash is very much an outcome-driven engineer—he doesn’t just ship code, he makes sure what he builds actually moves the needle. He’s proactive in identifying bottlenecks, quick to dive deep into problems, and thoughtful about scaling solutions. On top of that, he’s a great collaborator—clear communicator, low ego, and always willing to step up to unblock the team. Overall, Akash brings a strong combination of technical depth, product thinking, and execution velocity that makes him a valuable asset to any team.
I had the opportunity to work closely with him for over three years at a SaaS startup, and I can confidently say he is a highly talented and hardworking techie. He consistently demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, ownership, and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment. After I moved on from the organisation, he pursued higher education in the United States, which is a natural and well-deserved step in his journey. Recently, I reached out to him regarding a Senior SDM opportunity, but given his current situation and focus on building his career in the US, he has chosen to explore opportunities there, which is a thoughtful and practical decision. I would strongly recommend him to any organisation looking for a solid developer with the potential to grow into a capable and impactful leader.
I worked closely with Akash at SmartServ for over two years, and it was one of the most valuable learning experiences for me.He has a strong command of frontend and design systems, and what stood out most was his ability to connect design and engineering in a thoughtful way. He didn’t just build components, but scalable systems that improved consistency and developer experience, with a sharp eye for UI/UX and performance. Beyond his technical skills, he was always approachable and generous with his time, and played a big role in my growth through honest feedback and practical guidance. Any team would genuinely benefit from having him.
I had the chance to work with Akash at SmartServ (now ZenTrades), where he was a senior on the frontend team and also my mentor. I worked with him on a frontend refactoring project, and during that time I saw his strong frontend knowledge, clear thinking, and focus on building clean, scalable solutions.Whenever there was a challenging issue, he was someone the team could rely on. Working with Akash was a great experience. He was calm, practical, and always ready to help whenever needed. He shared his knowledge openly, guided the team well, and made collaboration smooth for everyone around him. I’m sure he will do well wherever he goes next.
I worked with Akash a few years ago, and his mentorship really shaped how I approach my work today. Even when I was just starting out as a Technical Associate, he trusted me with high-stakes tasks and pushed me to really dive deep into the technical side of things. He has a great mix of deep front-end knowledge and a natural way of leading people. He sets a high bar for quality but always makes sure the team has the support they need to get there. His guidance was a huge part of my early success, and any team looking for someone who can both build great products and grow the engineers around them would be lucky to have him.
